Your company probably already uses social media like Facebook and Twitter to get its message out. These tools can also be used to express your opinions on the budget debate.
- Write a blog post or Facebook update on developments in Washington and how they would affect the local community and your firm.
- Visit and comment on the Facebook pages or websites of elected officials, opinion leaders, and the news media. Be respectful and positive, and use your own name or firm name. One of the best ways to engage an elected official is to tell them when you appreciate something they did or said. If you are expressing disagreement, take on the ideas and arguments, not the person.
- Use your Twitter feed to circulate references to good articles, policy papers, or press releases using hashtag #s2nUSA, or “share” these on Facebook.
- Engage on Twitter with other voices who are participating in the debate – this ensures that your views are seen by their followers and may lead to increased traffic.
